2018 Benton County Dairy Princesses

Alison Smelter

Alison Smelter

Alison Smelter is 17 years old and is from Sauk Rapids. Her parents are Melissa Smelter and Joseph Bromenschenkel. She works for Jason Smelter who farms 200 acres and has 70 holstein milking cows. Jason ships to Bongard Creameries.

Alison is a senior at Sauk Rapids high School where she participates in the FFA program. She also is involved in 4-H. Alison has been a greenhand, chapter degree officer where she has held the position of sentinel, reporter and secretary. She is a 3rd place individual winner and on the 1st place team at regions competition for small animals.

In her leisure time she just likes being around her animals and especially her show calf, Holiday. Her future plans are to be a large animal veterinarian.

Something you don’t know about Alison is she would like to own her own hobby farm someday.

On the farm her jobs are to feed the calves and heifers and to milk.

Lindsey Benoit

Lindsey Benoit

Lindsey Benoit is 18 years old and is from Sauk Rapids. Her parents are Rocky and JoAnn Benoit. She has 3 sisters Kaysie, Werm, Jess Burczyk, and Bailey Benoit. She works at Werth Dreamin Farms where they farm 35 acres and have 50 milking cows and 20 dry cows. There here consists of Holstein, Jersey and brown swiss. They ship there milk to Gilman Co-op Creamery.

While in high school Lindsey was involved in FFA and in college is a Post-secondary Agriculture student. She was a B Honor roll student in every trimester while she was in high school. She has made the deans list in the fall of 2017 at Ridgewater college.

In her leisure time she like to spend time on the farm with her calves. Lindsey plans on getting a degree in dairy and beef nutrition.

Some things you don’t know about Lindsey is in 1996 her families dairy farm burnt down due to a electrical fire. At Ridgewater College she is also studying agribusiness along with her nutrition degree.

On the farm her chores are milking cows, feeding calves and other farm chores.

Izzy Bukovich

Izzy Bukovich is 16 years old and is from Sauk Rapids. Her parents are Ana Martel and Paul Bukovich. She has 2 brothers Duncan and Gavin.

Izzy works for BiPond Dairy owned by Aaron and Julie Albrecht. They farm 240 acres and have 300 mix head which consists of brown swiss, red and white Holstein, milking shorthorn and Holsteins. They ship their milk to First District Association.

As a Junior in high school she attends St. Cloud Vo-Tech School in the Post Secondary program. She is in 4-H where she is a 4-H ambassador, she is on the lacrosse team, dance team and is a member of the American rabbit breeder’s association.

In her leisure time Izzy likes to go to the farm and work with her cows, doing her rabbit chores and listening to music. Her future plans are to go to the U. of M Twin Cities and major in Biology.

Some things you don’t know about Izzy is that she is VP on the 4H leaders council shows rabbits nationally. Her favorite cows to work with are Jerseys. She has a ton of pets which she blames the cat for crumpling her bio sheet up.

Some of the jobs on the farm are working with show animals, milking and any other chores that needs to be done.

Nicole Ackerman is 17 years old and is from Sauk Rapids. Her parents are Mitch and Tasha Ackerman. She has 2 sisters Lilly and Allie.

Nicole will be working this summer on the Ackerman farms owned by Pete and Kevin Ackerman. They farm 500 acres and have 112 Holstein milking cows with 150 other young stock. They ship to AMPI

Nicole is a junior at the Sauk Rapids high school where she is active in FFA, Archery, Trap shooting. She is also active in 4-H and the 4-H wildlife bowl. She has earned many awards such as Chapter degree, most practiced team award, getting 50/50 in archery, making it the state for the wildlife bowl. Nicole plans on going to a 2-year college in the agriculture field.

In her leisure time she likes to hunt and climb tree which is useful in deer hunting season.

Something you don’t know about Nicole is she has been in 4-H for 9 years. When Nicole starts working at the Ackerman farm this summer she would like to help feed the animals and then milk cows.

We are a non-profit organization that represents the 87 Benton County dairy farms. Through the help of a percentage of the check-off dollars, we help the dairy farmers advertise and promote their dairy products. Our dairy princesses help educate the public on the importance of 3-A-Day Servings and the daily life of a dairy farmer.
